True, it says far more about Elinor's character than Willoughby's worthiness of the forgiveness. It contrasts very nicely with Mrs. Jennings all too natural reaction to news of W's engagement, (where she hoped his wife would plague his heart.) I think JA's feelings on the matter lean more towards Mrs. Jennings in this case.
