GR: Marianne's sensibility   Written by Line (9/11/2003 9:14 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, G.R: Marianne , A passionate victim of her nature?, penned by Mandy N

] Personally, I find it hard not to take Marianne's youth into account. I think she had more of a 'violent crush' on Willoughby than any addiction to violence. True, she could be self-centred and I agree while getting over Willoughby she was a real drama queen,an emotion freak!

Yes, Marianne is everything her detractors say she is: a self-centered drama queen - but she's a *16-year-old* self-centered drama queen, and in love for the first time! I think that *time*, all by itself, will do a lot to improve her!

BTW, I wonder what S&S would look like as written by one of the Bronte sisters. Though I definitely lean towards JA's version myself, I suspect that the Brontes would make it clear that the readers' sympathies ought to be with Marianne, just as JA makes it clear that our sympathies should be with Elinor!
