] Why did JA throw it in? It seems to me that Marianne is still centered on herself and thinks, as my sister would say, that the world revolves around her head.

While Marianne is making baby steps towards regarding the feelings of others, she still has a self-absorbed nature. She hasn't been cured of it completely.
