It is so compassionate of John to assure Elinor and Marianne that FANNY! should survive the ordeal!!! (-; I'm sure this information gives the girls ample comfort.

And I'm sure that John doesn't see the irony of telling them that the interest of 2000 pounds isn't enough to live on. (The 4 ladies Dashwood have just 2500/each.)
