John cannot, because he's made the acquaintance. At least civility is required of him, should they meet in future.
]Besides, wouldn't it be horribly rude for Fanny never to visit her sisters-in-law whilst in London, whether or not Mrs. Jennings was vulgar?
She could have done it, whether it was rude or not. "Rules" about the people with whom you left your card were very snobbish.
You should go to L&T for a more expert opinion, but I would definitely say that if Fanny had wanted to snub the entire family on the basis of their "low" background, it would have been quite acceptable for her to do it.
