] How did Mrs Jennings "meet" them in Exeter and "discover" them to be relations of hers? one of those random meetings such as in Persuasion when Anne first meets the notorious Mr Elliot; Mrs Jennings probably saw the freckles and nose on Lucy's face and thought they looked remarkably like her second cousin twice removed, and so decided to ask her if they were related ;o) perhaps I'm being a little cheeky but I can really see Mrs Jennings being sent into a frenzy of 'she really looks like my dear Charlotte! oh I really must ask her' and pining back and forth about whether she does or doesn't look like so and so until it all becomes too much and she has to ask! |
