And, of course, she loses all my sympathy with this next little speech of hers. *sigh* That girl.... ;-p]
I have to agree that Marianne's behaviour is usually pretty annoying, but in her defence Elinor hides her sadness over Edward so well, even without Lucy in the picture Marianne would expect that Elinor would feel upset over him not being there so when Elinor isn't Marianne would assume there's some sort of solid agreement between them or something.
Therefore I don't think you can blame Marianne for saying such a thing to Elinor since as far as she's concerned Elinor doesn't have anything to be sorrowful about!
I think there's something to be said for excuses being made when one doesn't even know something is wrong! After all the only way to avoid insulting or hurting people is to tip-toe around every issue and more often than not say nothing at all!
Of course it wouldn't hurt Marianne to think before she speaks, since you never know. :O)
