GR: Elinor's empathy

in consequence of the missive, GR: Elinor's strong feelings, penned by Barbara
Yes. I was quite struck by this passage: "Elinor drew near, but without saying a word; and seating herself on the bed, took her hand, kissed her affectionately several times, and then gave way to a burst of tears, which at first was scarcely less violent than Marianne's." Her grief is as palpable as much of a shock to her as it was to Marianne. Remember in a previous chapter when Elinor admitted that she loved Willoughby as well, and had no doubt at all about how much he loved Marianne. This was a betrayal not just to Marianne, but to the entire family. Badly done, Willoughby! |
