GR - Hi honey! I like someone else!   Written by Kate Samson (8/31/2003 7:13 p.m.)
Are you new?

Sorry everyone - I'm a little behind with the group read discussions, but I was curious as to your thoughts about why Edward told Lucy about Elinor or what he said.

As he says himself, he is 'no orator', so it doesn't seem likely that he could be accidentally swept away with her praises, especially in Lucy's face. All that I can see reasonably talked about is 'so my dear Edward, what have you been doing since I saw you last?' 'well my sister's moved in to her new house, and I met her half-sisters-in-law who have now moved away'.

Lucy says he talked constantly in their praise, but I feel that it might have been the opposite: that he said very little about them, gripped by his sense of guilt, and that she picked up on this reticence.

any thoughts?
