Interesting observation. Are you saying then she was conditioned the way she was?
Be that as it may, it doesn't warrant her talking so endlessly to Elinor about how much she loves Edward and how much she's marry him for nothing.
Admittedly, she can't prance around telling people she's marrying him for his security; and yet the overflow of all her insincere feelings is what I feel makes it beyond a 'survival' mechanism. She could easily take on the philosophy of Charlotte Lucas, in search of a comfortable home, but with the charm and 'people skills'of a Marianne. Such a combination is not impossible.
