] It's not Elinor's strong sense of morals, but her repression at such a young age that's at issue: the casting of the older Emma Thompson made a lot of sense. She spends almost the entire novel repressing her feelings and thoughts. I hope she can loosen up a bit: I wonder if she will... [

My vote is for the latter. She keeps her feelings to herself because it is the prudent thing to do. And isn't that what all we Mariannes learn as we grow up into Elinors?
