Lucy wants to have a private conversation with Elinor to dash her hopes completely. Actually both Elinor and Lucy desire to clarify everything concerning Edward. Lucy is deliberate, spiteful and a way ahead in manipulating people in comparison with Lady Middleton. Elinor sees it clearly, but can do very little - she cannot stoop to such meanness and scheming.
