GR: Edward and Lucy - plans   Written by Colin P (8/26/2003 6:02 p.m.)
Are you new?

So what exactly are Edward and Lucy's plans?

Lucy's plan seems clear enough. Having caught Edward, she was perhaps hoping his mother would settle some money on him (as the Dashwood's were hoping earlier, in fact). Failing that, she seems prepared to wait it out for Mrs Ferrars' death. Or perhaps she is getting a bit restless: the plan to grab the Norland living (whose imcumbent, she cheerfully tells us, is not likely to live long*) is a bit of a long shot, especially if it requires Elinor's help.

Anyway, while Lucy sits around praying for a freak outbreak of plague to wipe out her enemies, what is Edward's plan? I would like to think he isn't just waiting for his mother to pass away. Lucy believes that, if she finds out first, she "would very likely secure every thing to Robert". There is no suggestion that Edward has any better plan, though.

Is Edward really just drifting between a rock and a hard place, not caring which strikes first?

* Actually, isn't this more than a little tactless: Elinor would surely have known this person?
