GR: how sad is that?   Written by Jenny Allan (8/26/2003 1:30 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: More parallel situations, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

] Edward, too, has a lock of hair, and now we learn that it's Lucy's. This is brought up by Lucy as 'proof' of their attachment. The difference is that Lucy gave Edward the hair herself, set in a ring. She wants him to wear, openly, this proof or their connection.

Excellent parallels. I never thought of that before, but there are paralells between edward's secret engagement and Marianne's imagined engagements.

BTW, How pathetic is it to give someone a lock of your hair? Oh, and by the way here's a sonnett I wrote describing my own beauty, which I'm you can't live without.

It also begs the question why does Edward wear it? (apart from it adding to the mystery part of the plot). If he is not in love with Lucy, why expose himself to the embarassing questions? Couldn't he just put it away and wear it in her presence.
