GR: Same image/ Alan Rickman   Written by Annette J. (8/22/2003 4:39 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: same image, penned by Nuria
Are you new?

]I wonder how old he was then. Anyway, I wouldnŽt want another actor for the role, IŽd rather complain about AR! ; )))

Alan Rickman was born in 1946, so he was 49 in 1995. I agree that he was a wonderful Col Brandon but he was actually too old for the part, just as Emma Thompson was too old for the role of Elinor. I believe that she was in her early to mid-30s, and E was 19. Kate Winslett was closest in age to her character - I believe she was around 19 or 20. This was a case of the cast generally being too old for the roles but doing such a wonderful job that you cannot complain! I felt the same way about the original "Forsythe Saga," not the new one aired on PBS last year (terrible cast in my opinion).

This thread does bring up interesting thought about how filmed versions of books can influence us without our even knowing it.
