GR: Servants Written by Ingrid Linnéa (8/20/2003 4:54 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I would have thought, penned by Lisette

The text says:

it was a man on horseback
riding towards them. In a few minutes they could distinguish him to be a gentleman; ...
He dismounted, and giving his horse to his servant, walked back with them to Barton, whither he was
purposely coming to visit them.

Maybe they could see he was a gentleman just because he had someone riding behind him, and not at his side? And the text says his servant. I think that a gentleman travelling always brought his servant too. (Not that I know, of course, but...)
