GR: Too silly to understand?   Written by Ingrid Linnéa (8/19/2003 5:33 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: Charlotte, penned by Mary Anne
Are you new?

] Charlotte is a very silly woman, and yet she has great capacity for enjoyment simply because she's too silly to be insulted by anything; a more intelligent woman would realize how many nasty things Mr. Palmer is saying to her. (snip)

Actually, I think she does understand how insulting her husband is. But as she just has to live with it (no divorce possible), she is trying to make the best of the situation.

Either she could show that she is hurt when insulted in public, or just ignore it. Or, the option she has chosen, to laugh at it. Probably she doesn´t even admit to herself that she is hurt by her husbands remarks.
