I think Mrs. Jennings is making excuses, putting the best light on the situation. She didn't manage to snare the Col. for Charlotte and so now says, "Oh well, they wouldn't have suited anyway. And Mr Palmer is so much richer!" If she had bagged Brandon, it would have been a match made in heaven! ;-)
