in consequence of the missive, GR: Which characters do we like?, penned by Kristen G.
This is the 3rd time I've read S&S. I agree with Emmeline looking back on first impressions. I was instantly endeared to Elinor the first time I read the book and I liked Marianne too inspite of her impulsiveness. Colonel Brandon was a hero figure to me right from the start--the strong silent type.
Fanny, on the other hand, was instantly odious to me and in 3 reads I've seen nothing to change my mind.
I distrusted Willoughby from the start---there was that "something" about him that made me uneasy from the very beginning---too flashy for my tastes.
I like Mrs. Jennings, though at first I thought her thoughtless, but she's really a good hearted woman. Her heart is in the right place, but she really must learn when to stop teasing. Vicki I.
