GR: Brandon/Willoughby - sense or sensibility??   Written by Catherine Mary (8/14/2003 4:51 p.m.)
Are you new?

During my read of the first twelve chapters I noticed that the word sense is applied very much to Colonel Brandon.

I found it rather ironic that it is sensibility and not sense that attracts and captivates him!

Naturally Willoughby is more likely to have sensibilty applied to him. So as well as Elinor and Marianne having contrasting natures it is interesting that Marianne's lovers should contrast also.

Do you think in the past Brandon may have been more like Willoughby when he was younger??
