the Ws...   Written by Kate Samson (8/14/2003 7:52 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR - ch. 9 Willoughby's good name?, penned by LaurieC
Are you new?

] "His name is good..." Do they just mean that his name sounds good?

Hi everyone at the S&S board!

I'm in the process of rereading my Jane Austens and am sorry not to have realised you were... group reading is it?

But I've only just finished S&S too =)

I think Willoughby's name being Willoughby means that it's not like Smith or Brown... names that are very common... even Jennings...

And probably for romantics like Marianne, it has that airiness but also strength - just as Dashwood is a dashing name... whereas Ferrars sounds sort of ferrety... ;)
