] ...and Edward Ferrars meet for the first time? I get the impression that they first met when Edward came to stay at Norland, but being connected by marriage, wouldn't they have met before, at least at John and Fanny's wedding?

It was definitely at Norland:

From Ch. 3

"...the brother of Mrs. John Dashwood, a gentlemanlike and pleasing young man, who was introduced to their acquaintance soon after his sister's establishment at Norland, and who had since spent the greatest part of his time there. "

I get the impression that either they were not invited to Fanny and John's wedding or Edward wasn't. Maybe he was away at school then. Weddings were not really the big family affairs that they are now.
