It's all her mother's fault   Written by Jeanne P (8/12/2003 4:03 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: S.U.T.H.-ing Marianne, Part I, penned by Vianne
Are you new?

] this is the first time we really hear the willful, headstrong teenager in her voice; the teenager who thinks she has the world ...and will allow no counsel to the contrary.

] were I her mother, I might be quite hurt. Not only is Mrs. Dashwood ancient by Marianne's standards (which she gently points out to her daughter)... this censure from Marianne must have stung. I admire the lady's forebearance. I think I might have resorted to a S.U.T.H.

Marianne's willfull and headstrong traits, typically strong in a teenager, were badly indulged and not the least bit tempered by her mother. A good mother would properly admonish a daughter for these selfish outbursts. Sadly, Mrs. Dashwood prizes "admirable" sensibility rather than appropriate parental discipline and guidance toward treatment of your fellow human beings.

IMHO, Mrs. Dashwood seems a little dense that Marianne was basically insulting her about her age. Marianne and her mother, SUTH, badly needed.
