GR - Stanhill   Written by Deborah d'Bajor (8/12/2003 3:50 p.m.)
Are you new?

I'm a bit confused as to where Stanhill fits in to the picture. Mr & Mrs H Dashwood lived there before moving to Norland to be with their uncle, the girls were small, Sir JM visited them there and much of the furniture from there was moved to Norland and is inherited by Mrs D.

So what happened to Stanhill, which was presumably a small estate - perhaps a little like Coombe in scale?? But what happened when they moved to Norland? Was it sold, and if so why did HD not have more money to dispose of? It certainly didn't go to any of his children! If it was rented, where did the money come from? HD's father was presumably a (younger?) brother of 'The Old Gentleman'. If HD had no private property and income did he have a profession? And if so, how did he come to marry the first Mrs D, who was evidently pretty well off?

The things that come out of a close reading!!
