] Even within the family circle, she picks and chooses who gets treated poorly or well. Despite her assertion that half blood isn't really family, the Dashwood girls are her sisters-in-law.

You're absolutely right, and it comes back to the heart of the matter. With Fanny, she thinks only of herself, herself and herself, and her choices and decisions reflect that. What a villian!
