GR: At first I felt she was a bit over the edge   Written by Vicki I. (8/12/2003 12:11 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: The Mrs Jennings Appreciation Society, penned by Catherine Mary
Are you new?

] Don't you just love Mrs J! She makes me laugh in every chapter she appears!

However the dear old soul has won a place in my heart. Her meddling is not malicious, her intentions anything but cruel--unlike Fanny. She has a good heart but she doesn't know when to stop teasing and carries it dangerously close to the fine line when teasing becomes harrasment. In truth, her personality reminds me of my dear late uncle--he was a jolly person, loved to laugh but, lordy could he tease you to distraction! By the same token he would give you the shirt off his back if you were in need.

] What do the rest of you think of Mrs Jennings

I have come to like her. I think that when Mrs. Jennings interacts with Elinor and Marianne JA use her character to bring out the contrast between Elinor's calm, rational nature (Sense) and Marianne's spontaneous, emotional reaction (Sensibility) to the same incident or question which dear Mrs. J. usually precipitates. She makes me laugh and that's a good thing. Vicki I.
