] Why do you think JA showed so little of the interaction between Edward and Elinor?

I'm not sure. But on this reading it really struck me as almost coming out of the blue. I had forgotten that we see so little of the "falling in love" in the text (this is E.T.'s fault, of course) ;-)

As for Lady Middleton's inspidity, I would not part with a word of it. I like to laugh too much to consent to any alteration of the kind!
