The first for me . . .   Written by Mary Anne (8/8/2003 7:42 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Understandable..., penned by Barbara
Are you new?

] ]S&S2 last summer and Alan Rickman drove me over the edge. (-;

] Funny how he has that effect on people, isn't it?

Isn't it though? *checking for proximity of fainting couch* Thanks for starting my Friday off right, Barb!

Anyway . . . first S&S read. I came late to JA: when I was in grad school, I found an old copy of P&P that had belonged to one of my uncles, read it, and liked it very much. Later, when it was time for my master's comprehensive exams and I was doing a great deal of reading, I picked up S&S and enjoyed it as well. I can distinctly remember being delighted that Marianne and Brandon did end up together after all, for Brandon had impressed me with his kindness and patience; I even think I was fearful that something would happen to Miss Grey and Willoughby would come back for Marianne! =8-O

For some reason I didn't do much more JA at the time--I suppose it was the flurry of trying to get through the rest of grad school when I could hardly fit in eating and sleeping, let alone all the reading I wanted to do--but later I returned to JA's novels and have been reading and re-reading them with pleasure ever since. Looking forward to the Group Read!
