a guy would make if he was trying to appear more concerned with a woman's honor than he really was. If he was REALLY concerned with her honor being besmirched by his walking her unchaperoned, he'd have NOT WALKED HER UNCHAPERONED.
"Willoughby alludes to Marianne compromising her honor by walking with him unchaperoned (which, incidentally, seems like a rather out-of-character remark for him)."
