Brandon in S&S2   Written by Robbin (2/26/2013 1:57 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Why not? It is an interesting topic., penned by Kristina F
Are you new?

In the novel, after Eliza’s maid exposed them, Brandon was ‘banished to the house of a relation far distant’ (31) so his being packed off into the army does not seem all that different and might have been much worse. Packed off suggests Brandon did not have any choice. His father would have had to buy him a commission and perhaps Brandon was shanghaied and woke up on a ship bound for the East Indies. LOL!

In S&S2 Brandon carries Marianne a very long way. We see Marianne walk past tall hedges, through formal gardens, across fields and over hedgerows and up a nice long hill to the top. I do not think any man could carry her back without being exhausted by the time he got to Cleveland.

When I put ‘Why talk about the duel?’ in the subject line it was a joke referring to the fact both S&S2 and S&S3 cut the dialog about the duel—they did not talk about the duel. Also you do not need to repeat my words back to me. I almost always remember what I said and if I do not I can always refresh my memory by reading my posts.
