No good rationale   Written by Kristina F (2/25/2013 10:11 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Why talk about the duel?, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

This is a guess but maybe the powers that be cut the dialog about the duel in S&S2 because they wished to drop the duel from the story.

But why? A duel would have been somewhat challenging to film, I suppose, and would have used some (but not necessarily very much) of the budget, but there was no "duel scene" in the original, published screenplay, so money and physical difficulty could not have been the problem. The dialogue about the duel could not have taken more than half a minute of screentime, so surely it was not cut for time constraints?

To be frank, I can't think of any good reason why the "powers that be" (i.e., studios and producers) would not have wanted a duel in their film. Think of the possibilities! There is hardly anything more cinematic than a duel scene. Andrew Davies understands this, at least.
