The novel ends w/ Marianne marrying Brandon "with no sentiment superior to strong esteem and lively friendship." This, imo, is how S&S2 approaches the romance part of Marianne's relationship w/ Col Brandon, esteem & friendship. And the happiness of both in the post-wedding scene allows us to know that Marianne's "whole heart became, in time, as much devoted to her husband, as it had once been to Willoughby."

I know you dislike S&S2, and I'm not trying to change your opinion, but liking it is not necessarily an indication that we are "easily pleased" with adaptations, either. hah!
