 I dont say for certain, that Eliza was the instigator of "lets go out without the maid"... I think it is problable that they were both keen to have some fun without a chaperone... but I dont see that the friend (who was certainly a very wilful selfish wrong minded girl) was the one pressuring Eliza into flirtation and being seduced. And even if she had urged Eliza on, that didn't mean that E had to give way. Possibly the friend didn't know, afterwards, where E was, but clearly she didn't and wouldn't tell Brandon however much she DID know.. so that Brandon could find his ward and that alone shows her to be a very wrong minded young lady. But Eliza was the one who ran away with Will, and didnt want to be found and who only wrote to him when she was desperate and even then didn't wnat to tell the name of her seducer.
