...Were minor, and easy to treat and camouflage with clothing and neck ties. A minor knick with the tip of a rapier could signal; "I could have killed you if I chose;" and a winner apparent. This may support an argument that a known duel, with seconds and referees, does not defend from a manslaughter charge, though it change the definition from a murder (unless something drastic change the situation, like a broken sword, and with the prevalence of the high quality Wilkinson {England?} and Toledo {Spain?} blades, that is unlikely).
