Rae Elaine was discussing the novel, which was the reason for my point about pistols.

And I'm not arguing for any one adaptation over the other, just that I don't like to have a character's character known before it's necessary (as JA does with Willoughby, for example).

As for Willoughby being somewhat sympathetic, well, many readers still wish he could have ended up w/ Marianne (as I did the first couple of times I read the novel), so his actual sympathetic-ness is open to a variety of opinions as well. :-)
