Swords or pistols?   Written by kathleen (elder) (2/12/2013 3:07 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, a thought on events, penned by Rae Elaine

I don't believe that JA specified, but many of us believe that Brandon and Willoughby engaged in a pistol duel rather than a sword fight.

BTW, Whitwell is not Delaford. Delaford is Col Brandon's estate but Whitwell is the estate of Col Brandon's brother-in-law (see the end of Chap. 12).

Not sure in what part of Somersetshire Combe Magna is located, so we don't really know how far from Bath it is; also not sure that it matters. Willoughby could have been visiting Bath regardless of how close Combe Magna might be. And while we don't have the full details of Willoughby's acquaintance w/ Eliza, we do know that their relationship resulted in a baby.

And I disagree about making Willoughby a villain from the beginning of the story - while he did seduce Eliza at that time, the reader of the novel doesn't learn about it until well past the halfway point. I'm not sure that it's necessary (or even a good idea) to show that to viewers of an adaptation, but I understand that different adaptors have different point of view. :-)
