Yes, it may have been that. Elinor thought that Lucy's revelation of the engagement was to 'teach' Elinor to stay away from Edward; maybe this settled presence was another way for Lucy to enforce her claim.

But it is sure written like Lucy had a way to contrive an unreasonably long stay. Perhaps she was going to walk home, after the visit? That would explain the soon afterwards went away, which implies that her departure was under her own control.
