I read the story Relatives & Relativity by Yahtzee at the internet site A Teaspoon and an Open Mind and enjoyed it very much. I thought the merging of Austen and Dr. Who was well done. It takes place after our Elinor and Marianne return to the comfort of Barton Cottage but before our heroes’ reappearance. This void is filled by The (Ninth) Doctor at times muddled and at others focused, kind when warranted and most importantly recognizing the superiority of our Miss Dashwoods. The interspecies, interspatial, inter-dimensional encounter of the third kind is useful to all three either by embracing new ideas or sometimes re-embracing old ideas. Mrs. Dashwood and Margaret, Mrs. Jennings, Sir John and the newly wed Willoughbys make their appearance—this last a horror even greater than expected! A well-founded nod to Mrs. Jennings and the treatment of Marianne’s growth since the unpleasantness at Cleveland was particularly pleasing. There were some incongruities with the text and at one point I thought the writer based the story in the S&S2 universe (which is ok) rather than in the novel. Either way these quibbles could not spoil the story for me. I found Relatives & Relativity to be a fun read that demanded about thirty minutes of my time and made me smile. Recommend for S&S and Dr. Who fans. Thanks for sharing Stephanie! (:D)
