in consequence of the missive, I notice that in NA..., penned by Adrian
I'm sitting here going through the novels in my head trying to see if there's any instances where the "heroines" are unchaperoned at balls, assemblies, etc, but I'm not really coming up with anything.
Were chaperones required at only balls and assemblies or did young, unmarried women require chaperones no matter where they went? The example of Catherine Morland going to NA (with Eleanor seeming to act as chaperone) was mentioned. Did Anne Elliot go anywhere alone?
