in consequence of the missive, Married women, penned by bridget D
if she got pregnant by her lover while she was married to Col Brandon's brother. Brandon only says that Eliza II was "the offspring of her first guilty connection". She seems to have lived with her lover for some time after her divorce, and maybe she conceived her daughter then.
It wasn't necessary that she was pregnant by a lover for her husband to divorce her; the fact that she has a lover was enough.
