Lady of the Manor   Written by Natalie (Tuesday, 11 January 2011, at 11:52 p.m.)

I've been watching Cranford and am realizing that Lady Ludlow is like Emma...is this right? When Lady Ludlow is taking stock of how many people work for her and how she has so many people dependent on her, etc., these are the same responsibilities as Emma and her father would have had, right? It's just that JA didn't spend her crux of Emma's world on her responsibilities?

If this is right, who else from JA's books is "in charge" of estates and people?
