Clever Indeed   Written by Jack Cerf (3/11/2003 1:56 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Clever Mr. Shepherd., penned by donald s. taylor

] I forgot Mr. Shepherd, Sir Walter's agent, who comes across as a knowing psychologist and a clever manipulator when he convinces Sir Walter that because of his status, word about Kellynch being to let would unavoidably get out, when Shepherd had clearly already found Admiral Croft.

From whom I daresay Mr. Shepherd collected a commission in addition to whatever fees he got as Sir Walter's man of business. A smart and none too scrupulous solicitor could do well out of a stupid and improvident landowner like Sir Walter.
