Abbey School today   Written by Caroline (2/16/2003 11:59 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Another view of the Abbey School scenario, penned by Caroline
Are you new?

For those interested, the Abbey Gatehouse, where Jane went to school, is still standing. It's right in the centre of Reading, between the main railway station and the prison!

On the map linked below, you should be able to see the Abbey Gatehouse, the Abbot's walk, and Forbury- part of the massive twentieth-century traffic calming system that was installed in Reading in the 'sixties. You can also see an Abbey School, but that isn't Jane's school- it's much newer.

For an amusing look at Jane Austen and Reading Abbey, there is a nice little webpage Linked Here . It shows you the Abbey ruins, but not the gatehouse itseslf, unfortunately. But it's still worth a visit, I think...;-)
