Hampson   Written by Barbara (2/4/2003 1:53 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Some scattered notes about the Austens.., penned by Leif G-n
Are you new?

] It was a tough life for George Austen six and his two sisters,Philadelphia seven and Leonora five, losing both their parents. (There had been a third sister with the unusual name Hampson, who died young).

The name Hampson was the maiden name of George Austen's mother Rebecca. Her father (so George Austen's grandfather, Jane's great-grandfather) had been Sir George Hampsson, a baronet and a physician.

]And no one really wanted to take care of them. Not their stepmother Susanna Kelk(she had perhaps no means to),but there was money for education left by their father.

I have a few comments to add about this, but I was planning to put them in a thread farther down the page. I'll call the post 'Resiliant'
