It is not that I doubt that such a story could be written. But would Author Austen write it? She, who stayed in small country neighborhoods, speaking of morals and marriages, the probables and the recogizables? She, who had a demonstrably true statement in an earlier book assert that 'such things' do not happen in England in that age, that such villains do not escape when all about them can and do see their villainy?
I will think about it, but my initial reaction is that someone linked Mrs. Younge and Mr. Wickham's plot with a similar idea for Mrs. Clay and Mr. Elliot, not that Author Austen was going to visit an early crime novel format.
