in consequence of the missive, The meaning of brilliance?, penned by Stephen VI
I think (again, who knows!), her intention might have been to create a man who was brilliant in every way- intellect, wit, looks, aptitude. But the structure of the book would have made some of these qualities difficult to develop.
Austen focuses on his second meeting with Anne. In all those scenes he is angry, hurt, resentful, anxious, but never really happy or lively.
This is why I wish there was a chapter from 1806. That was we could have seen them interact before all these negative emotions set in.
