in consequence of the missive, The Villain in Persuasion, penned by Kathy Lynn386
Teh Elliots do not force Anne to refuse Wentworht. She accepts him. They are not too thrilled becuase of his finances and Sir Walt cant' give her any money, but they dont refuse the match. SHE breaks off the engagement becuase Lady R persuades her, because she feels that it woudl be hard on Fred to be tied to an engagement when they might have to wait years to marry. And there is a "bad villain" in Persuasion in the shape of William Walter. He leads Mr Smith into extravagance, then far far worse, neglects his duty to hlep Mrs Smith when she is poor and ill. He seduces Mrs Clay to keep her from marrying Sir Walter.
