Austen's opinion on Rank through Anne Written by Stacey GC (2/27/2013 1:25 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Anne`s opinion on Lady Dalrymple, penned by Karen Marie

JA is using Anne to criticize society in general for giving far more value to those of high rank rather than those of high intellect, wit or accomplishment.

Do we still do the same thing today? With the academy awards just a few days ago, do we look at those who won with more esteem than we may have the day before? Is Celebrity the American equivalent of rank? Would we act differently if related, even distantly, to a prominent celebrity?

This is why her novels are still so popular. The lessons are timeless. When in doubt, let JA be your guide. :-)
