it's simply the most beautiful book I've ever read. I am nothing like Anne Elliot, but I admire her greatly, and wish I were more like her.

And then there's Frederick. He's my favorite literary hero. He admitted to feeling resentful towards Anne but, despite these feelings, he still did what he could to help her during the Long Walk and, when Louisa did her swan dive, his first instinct was to look for Anne's help. This got lost in the adaptation, but in the book, he refers to her by her first name in her hearing -- this tells me loud and clear that he still has feelings for her. And then, there's his Letter. His glorious, beautiful, heart-wrenching Letter. I have never read anything more romantic in any book I've ever read. Yes, all those other ladies can have Darcy, and with my compliments. I'll take Frederick any day of the week.
