... for being fond of "Persuasion" is that my name is Anne, and my husband's name is Frederick. :-) Yes, really.

Another reason is that we are dealing here with love in maturity. Anne is no longer young, she doesn't sparkle like Elizabeth Bennet, she is not "handsome, clever and rich," she has only her steadfast character and her good sense. And if Captain Wentworth had not so nursed his own hurt pride, he might have had her six years sooner.

But yes, the letter. One of the most emotionally overpowering scenes in the English canon, and it brings me to tears every time I read it.
